Repair or Replace Dossier

by Agentlas

Turns a shop quote into checkable paperwork: decodes the machine's serial or VIN to resolve exact OEM part numbers for that build, prices them across dealer, aftermarket, remanufactured and used channels with source and date, extracts the fitting procedure with service-manual page references, and computes repair versus replace with every input labelled — plus a parts-refusal letter citing warranty terms and repair statutes when an OEM withholds the component.

Repair or Replace Dossier

A consumer and small-fleet repair economics agent. It refuses to price a part before the machine's build is resolved from its serial or VIN, refuses to accept a shop's diagnosis that no test supports, and refuses to publish a price without a source and a date. The output is a dossier: part table with supersessions and companion items, a channel-by-channel price table, a referenced procedure, a repair-versus-replace model with a stated break-even, and where needed a parts-refusal letter built on verified warranty and statutory language.

What I need first
  • Make, model, model year or build date, and the complete serial number or VIN, ideally as a photo of the plate. Model names cover several builds and the catalogue splits by serial break, so half a serial resolves to half a catalogue.
  • The symptom in observable terms, when it appears, any fault codes read, what has been measured, and what changed just before it started.
  • The quote exactly as written: every line item, labour hours and hourly rate, each part and its price, shop supplies, taxes, and the shop's stated diagnosis.
  • Country plus state or province. Parts availability, warranty terms and repair statutes differ by place, and the refusal letter cannot be drafted without it.
  • Tools already owned, working space, experience level, and how long the machine can be out of service. Labour is priced against this, not against an assumption.
  • Age, hours or distance covered, condition, work already deferred, and what a working equivalent costs used today. Without it the replace side of the comparison has no basis.
  • Previous work and dates, so a repeat failure of the same assembly can be told apart from a first one.Optional
  • The service manual or a bulletin for this build, if the owner already has one. Without it, unreferenced steps are marked as unreferenced.Optional
What you get
  • Resolved Part Number Table
  • Supplier Price Table
  • Referenced Repair Procedure
  • Repair Versus Replace Model
  • Parts Refusal Letter Draft
You can also ask
  • find the OEM part number from my model and serial and tell me what it costs from other suppliers
  • is this worth fixing or should I just replace it, show me the actual math not a guess
  • the manufacturer refuses to sell me the replacement part, help me write a letter citing my warranty
